LEAGUE RULES

The White Rock Senior Hockey League (WRSHL) is operated by City Gate Contracting Ltd and plays ice hockey under the rules of the Canadian Hockey Association (CHA) official rule book with these additional rules:

CODE OF CONDUCT (on and off the ice) The WRSHL was founded on the principle of a Gentlemen’s Recreation Hockey League. Teams and players agree to do everything in their power to play hockey in a sportsmanlike manner and display good will towards their opponent and fellow league officials. The league is open to those players looking for a fun and safe environment to play a recreational brand of organized ice hockey, regardless of ability. On ice officials are to eject any player who is not upholding the league code of conduct and report such violation to the League Manager.

PENALTY INFRACTION CEILINGS
Players who participate in the WRSHL shall only be permitted to incur a maximum of 22 infractions in anyone season before facing mandatory expulsion from the league.
Players who incur their 14th infraction during the season shall be suspended for one game. Players who incur their 18th infraction during the season shall be suspended for two games. Any player incurring their 22nd infraction shall be suspended for the remainder of the season and shall not be permitted to partake in the White Rock Challenge Cup Tournament. Any player incurring 22 infractions in one season will not be permitted to play the following year without a full review and reinstatement by a majority vote (3 of 5) of the rules committee members. The league is a Gentlemen’s league and players who play a physical brand of hockey, are aggressive in nature and play an agitating and edgy brand of hockey shall not be permitted to remain in this league.

GAME FORMAT
2 running time periods of 30 minutes. At the beginning of the ice slot 35 minutes shall be placed on the score clock and the clock is to remain running at all times. Teams are to be ready to commence play at the 30 minute mark (pucks off the ice and starting lines ready at centre ice) Goaltenders are to remain in the same crease for both periods and do not change creases. The 2nd period will be 30:30 and running time shall apply up until the 2:00 mark whereby the clock will stop on the whistles thereafter if the game score differential is 2 or less.

STICK INFRACTIONS
Sticks are not permitted to hook or impede an opponent. Sticks used to impede opponents progress or movement shall warrant a penalty. Any stick used on an opponent from waist to under shoulder will incur a single minor penalty. Any stick used on an opponent making contact from the shoulder to and above the shoulder shall warrant a min. double minor penalty to a major and or match penalty (at the referee’s discretion) Players must be in control of their sticks at all times. A player who attempts to make contact with the puck with his stick above the dasher board height (whether or not contact with the stick and puck occur) shall be assessed a minor penalty for high-sticking the puck.

NO SLAP SHOTS – NO BODY CHECKING
A slap shot is defined as any contact with the puck that recoils the toe of the blade beyond 15” from the puck. A minor penalty shall be assessed to any player who uses a slap shot. If an injury results a major and or match penalty (at the referee’s discretion) shall be applied. No Body Checking is permitted – players must make every effort to avoid a collision or contact with an opponent. Any player body checking an opponent shall receive a min. major penalty or match penalty as per the referees assessment and will be suspended indefinitely pending a league review.

TEAM MANAGERS hereby agree to register each and every player on their team individually by having their players fill out and sign a League Registration form (form available online at www.wrshl.com). The Team Manager shall then take their players registration forms and submitted them to the off-ice official at the time keepers bench prior to the start of that game. Players who's registration form has not been submitted to the off-ice official and are not listed on the leagues webpage under "CARDED MEMBERS" are not eligible to be part of the White Rock Senior Hockey League and therefore are not to be on the ice surface for any pre-game skate, exhibition, league and or tournament game until such time as their registration form has been submitted as above. There is no exception to this rule. Each team’s registered players (those who are officially registered) are those listed on the leagues webpage under "CARDED MEMBERS". Any player who is not on this list must fill out a registration form, sign it and have their team manager submit it to the off-ice official prior to taking to the ce surface and or/participating in any sanctioned game/event. 

PLAYER TRANSFERS
Any player wanting to transfer from one team to another team during the regular season must first be paid up in full to their current team, make application to transfer by emailing the WRSHL Manager (wrshl@hotmail.com) and wait for the transfer to be approved or denied. The league manager will have sole discretion on approving a player transfer during the season. 

PLAYER TOURNAMENT ELIGIBILITY
In order for Players to be eligible for the White Rock Challenge Cup tournament they must have played a minimum of 6 league games for that team in the White Rock Senior Hockey League. The League Manager has the authority to permit a spare goaltender to play in the tournament who has not met the minimum 6 game threshold due to injury, work commitments or other issues related to a team not being able to provide a goalie for this event.

NO SMOKING & NO ALCOHOL POLICY
Players are not permitted to smoke any substances including cigarettes or bring and consume alcohol into any of the league facilities including dressing rooms. This is an Arena & Facility policy.

HALF VISORS, INTERNAL MOUTH GAURDS & CSA EQUIPMENT
Players must wear CSA approved hockey gear and are also encouraged to wear a half visor and an internal mouth guard. Players do not have medical and dental insurance through the leagues insurance policy and must rely upon their own medical and dental expenses should injury result. The game of hockey has a high risk to injury and each player takes this risk upon himself. All players must wear all CSA approved equipment. All players must wear full gear including CSA approved helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves with full palms, pants, jock with cup, shin pads without any modifications, matching socks to uniform and the player must wear his number throughout the entire year without any other player wearing such number. Goaltenders must wear CSA approved helmets/masks for facial protection and throat protectors. (No large Cat Eyes are permitted)

ARENA POLICY
All teams are to adhere to the Arena Policies of the facility in which they are playing in. Players are to conduct themselves in a Gentlemen manner and be courteous to the public and arena staff at all times. There is a no swearing and / or spitting policy within all of the leagues rented ice facilities.

SUSPENSIONS
At no time is a player under suspension permitted to locate himself on the team’s bench and or near his teams or the opponent’s team bench during the game. Players under suspension may watch their team play in the opposite side of the arena. Any player under suspension getting him involved in an altercation on or off the ice shall be immediately expelled and shall face any other charges as a course of his actions.

RISK OF INJURY
All players understand that playing the game of hockey comes with a high risk of injury. All players play at their own risk by taking part in sanctioned activities.
